Piedmont

Reclaimed Chestnut | Smooth

Before the species was devastated by the chestnut blight, a fungal disease, it was one of the most important forest trees throughout its range, and was considered the finest chestnut tree in the world. The only way you can get American chestnut wood today is from the salvaged 18th and 19th century buildings, and the best and biggest material comes from the barns. Our chestnut is both beautiful and wide with color tones ranging from light brown to a medium reddish brown depending on finish. Our Piedmont finish is named after the numerous ridges found in the Piedmont region of Virginia which borders the Blue Ridge Mountains. The finish itself is an oil based finish that allows for the characteristics of the wood to shine through, creating a slightly different grey hue from board to board. This variation in color creates unique floors that never tire the eye. This finish is also available on reclaimed oak.
